Robin is a long raised quarter deck design coaster built by Mackenzie, MacAlipine & Co. Bow Creek, in East London for Robert Thomson, a London ship owner.
Robin was launched on 16 September 1890 before being fitted out in the East India Docks and moved in October to Dundee in Scotland to have her triple-expansion engine, boiler and auxiliary machinery fitted. Her maiden voyage was on 20 December 1890 to Bayonne in France.
She was bought in 1892 by Alexander Blackwater to form the Robin Steamship Company trading between Britain, Ireland and the continental ports carrying cargos of grain, iron ore, scrap steel and general cargos of casked and baled goods.
In May 1900 she was sold again this time to Spanish owners and passed through a couple of other changes of ownership whilst trading around the coast of Spain.
Purchased by a trust in 1974 she now sits on a purpose made pontoon in the final stages of restoration.
