I sailed on the Spirit in 1990. Best time I've ever had we capsized onto a sandbank. Very dramatic stuff. Coastguard we're amazing the pulled us out of it. I'd love to go back on board and sail with her again

I was a trainee fitter who helped to build this boat in 1982. I still have my contract of employment!
It was called the Spirit of Merseyside when launched,. Later it became the Spirit of Scotland and was supported by Scottish Nuclear fuels.
The original cast iron keel was cast upside down. The result of this mistake was myself and another fitter redrilling the bolt holes and grinding the whole keel flat and square. It took us weeks with two Swan 9 inch hand grinders!

My interest in ships and the sea started back in 2006 when I worked for a couple of years  on the banks of the River Mersey. I have since been on a couple of cruises around the Med and in the Far East and have started to take more interest in researching and photographing some of the ships and other vessels seen on my travels.
