During our holiday we passed many First World War cemeteries from both sides.
Driving through the quiet and peaceful French countryside it is impossible to imagine the conflict and massive loss of life that took place in the Somme nearly a hundred years ago.
Above and below are photographs of Serre Road Cemetery No. 2, one of three cemeteries along this stretch of road.
There are now 7,127 Commonwealth burials of the First World War in the cemetery mostly dating from 1916. Of these 4,944 are unidentified.
